What I like about matte paint is the fact that I need patience, and I can zen myself out while working. Actually it is so similar to meditation that charge my battery and feel so calm afterwords. It can be a really big job and ask for lots of details and concentration so it asks for one to take time in order to do it with best quality.
What is the most fun? I can create worlds that look so realistic, but they are not made in 3d.
